Reader Profile

I enjoy reading romance, sometimes mysteries, fantasy, science fiction, and young adult books. I like books set in the regency or old west. I am fan of Nora Roberts, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Tamora Pierce, J.R. Ward, Susan Mallery, Carol Higgins Clark, Christine Feehan, and Nalini Singh. I don't read horror, because I don't like books that are scary. A little bit of scare is okay in a book, but I don't like the whole book to terrify me from beginning to end. I currently help run a book club that for adults that like reading young adult books. I occasionally read non-fiction books, but not very often.

  1. Hi Lindsay!

I agree with you about the horror books, and you summed it up nicely. I don’t like books that are meant to scare me “from beginning to end,” either.

That’s neat you like books set in the Old West. What Old West books would you suggest reading?
I enjoy watching Old West movies. I really liked The Magnificent Seven with Chris Pratt in it, and I also liked some of True Grit. I had to fast-forward or look away from the graphic scenes, though!

    1. I really like Linda Lael Miller's McKettrick books. They are romance set in the Old West. I have never seen The Magnificent Seven movies, but I did watch the tv show and I loved it, wish they hadn't cancelled it.

  3. Hi Lindsay!

Romance is my favorite genre too. For J. R. Ward, have you read the latest Black Dagger Brotherhood book? Sherrilyn Kenyon is another favorite, along with Linda Lael Miller. Since you like romance set in the old west you might like Rosanne Bittner's Outlaw Hearts Saga. Have you read any of Joan Johnston? She's similar to Linda Lael Miller.

    1. Hi Holly,

I have the newest on my stack of to read books, and I can't wait for The Thief to come out. I'll have to give Rosanne Bittner's books a try, the name sounds familiar but I don't think I've read any of hers. I have read Joan Johnston's books, I liked them.

  4. Hi Lindsay! I like Nora Roberts when she writes as J.D. Robb. Have you ever checked out AAR (https://allaboutromance.com/) or Smart Bitches, Trashy Books (http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/)? They have some good discussions and lots of reviews. So, are you going to choose horror for one of your genre reads to get out of your comfort zone?

    1. Hi Katie,

I love the J.D. Robb series. I'm waiting for the newest one to come out soon. I miss her short stories that use to come out in between the novels. I haven't seen either of those sites. I'll have to check them out. No, I can't read horror without scaring myself or having nightmares. I'm going with Westerns and Non-fiction which aren't something I normally read. The only westerns I read are romance set in the Old West, so I'm going to try a regular western.

  5. Hi Lindsay! I understand about avoiding horror. Books get into your head so much more than, say, a movie. I read a book about the Boston strangler and Red Dragon (the prequel to Silence of the Lambs) at the same time which was not a smart thing to do. I still like fictional horror but I haven't gone near a true crime story since then with the exception of John Douglas' books about profiling. I picked westerns as one of my genres as well. :)
